There are a number of environmental events being planned for mid November in north east Victoria.

In mid November Friends of the Earth will be hosting walks on the Buffalo plateau and the following day Protect Our Winters and Upper Ovens Landcare will co-host a planting day, followed by a film night in Bright.

1/ Buffalo day walks (sun 16 NOV). Buffalo plateau is an ‘island in the sky’ of alpine and sub alpine vegetation which is seperated from the mountains along the Great Dividing Range. Sadly it has been badly burnt several times since the early 2000s.

The walk in Buffalo national park will be easy, comprising 2 two hour walks to visit remnant and relatively intact forests on the plateau. This will happen on Sunday November 16. You will need to be somewhere close on the Saturday as we will meet on the plateau at 9am on the Monday.

There is no cost for this event but please rsvp so we know how many people to expect.

2/ Tree planting/ ecological restoration (mon 17 NOV). Then on Monday afternoon, join us for revegetation and site care with Upper Ovens Landcare (location TBC, close to Bright).

3/ Film night (mon 17 NOV). From 6 – 8 PM there will be a screening of the film Purple Mountains, which focuses on professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones and his efforts to find common ground and bridge the political divide over climate change. This will happen  at Bright Brewery and be followed by some climate conversations.

This gathering also marks the Bright launch of POW’s new Campaign – Protect Our Alpine Future – a call to action to address the root causes of our changing winters and ensure future generations can enjoy the mountains as we do today.

The events on the monday are free but please rsvp to ensure you can get a ticket. You can get one here.
