The listings cover community and cultural events (the less commercial the better) and any events revolving around human powered or gravity aided adventure in and around the mountains country of south eastern Australia and Tasmania.

OCTOBER

‘Possum Rediscovery Day Picnic’ (Cambarville, April 5)
The Leadbeater’s Possum is a critically endangered possum largely restricted to small pockets of alpine ash, mountain ash and snow gum forests in the Central Highlands of Victoria.
Each year the Friends of Leadbeater’shold a ‘Possum Rediscovery Day Picnic’ to mark the day this species was rediscovered. In 2020, it will happen on Sunday, 5th April.

The Alpine Quest Adventure
The Alpine Quest Adventure Race is a navigation-based team event to be held on Australia Day weekend (Jan 25 – 28) for teams of four, who need to stay together the whole time.
It consists of kayaking, mountain biking and trekking legs with some ‘additional challenges’. It will happen out of Falls Creek resort in north east Victoria.

Bogong Conquestathon
This is an annual walk up Mt Bogong, held over the Labor Day weekend. It is a long day and strenuous: it involves a 20km round trip, with a climb of 1,300 metres. It is organised by the Upper Kiewa Valley Lions Club.
