This summer’s fires had a devastating impact on the environment and economies of the Victorian, NSW and ACT mountains.

Now, the Victorian government, through the Inspector-General for Emergency Management or IGEM, is holding an inquiry into ‘Victoria’s preparedness for and response to the 2019-20 fire season’. You can make a submission to this process.

Through this inquiry, IGEM will examine Victoria’s preparedness for the fire season, response to fires in large parts of Victoria’s North East, Gippsland, and Alpine regions, and will review relief and recovery efforts.

The inquiry is in two stages.

  • The first part will look at preparedness and response to the fires. Submissions to this phase are due by April 15
  • The second will look at the effectiveness of immediate relief and recovery work and  associated arrangements. Submissions to this phase are due by the end of April.

If you have ideas on how emergency and government services responded and how things might be changed or improved in future then please make a submission.

Details and how to make a submission can be found hereon the IGEM website.

We will post some ideas here shortly which may help you in making a submission.
