As far as I’m concerned, SplitFest – the Splitboarding festival – is the highlight of the winter backcountry calendar.
You get a great party in Jindabyne on the Friday night, a camp out up in the mountains at Island Bend with a big mob of fantastic people, and an outing with Adam West, who will share his knowledge of the backcountry, reading terrain and all things splitboarding.
It will be held over the weekend of August 25 to 27, starting with the get together at the Jindabyne Bowling Club in the downstairs room starting @ 6pm on the Friday night.
Then head up to Island Bend, and join the tour on the Saturday. Last year we had close to blizzard conditions, but it’s always a great day. Finish off with a late lunch at Guthega resort before returning to Island Bend for a night of drinking and yarning around the fire.
There’s a tshirt contest going on at present (you can buy one here). Please buy a tshirt if you can. Adam puts a huge amount of effort into the weekend and the raffle and tshirt sales help to keep the show on the road.
You can register here.
This is a free event. Most people bring their own gear but you can organise splitboard hire through Adam, check the website for details.
See you in the Snowies in August!
