KEEN TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE? Protect our Winters (POW) Australia is looking for local organisers in each resort and nearby towns to host a gathering on Saturday June 11th 2022 to help #welcomebackwinter

WHAT? Join us in a major mobilisation of the snow sports community on opening weekend in June.

Each event will feature a gathering of locals, unifying the voice of the snow sports community in calling on the federal government to increase it’s ambition to tackle climate change. We will meet, join together to take a photo with our demand for action, then tag in the Prime Minister and other politicians. It will be a quick, fun gathering.

WHY?  Snowpack in Australia has been in decline since the 1950s and will continue under current warming scenarios.  Without serious global action, we face the prospect of losing winter snow within decades.

WHAT ARE WE CALLING FOR? The Australian government is not doing enough to reduce emissions, but at the UN climate talks in Egypt (COP27) to be held in late 2022, countries will be asked to declare plans to cut emissions by 2030. This is a huge opportunity to pressure the federal government to lift its ambition from its current target of 26-28% below 2005 levels by2030.

COMMUNITY GATHERING: After two hard winters of covid and lockdowns, we can’t wait to get back on the hill and out in the snow.
