We’re ready for winter.
And We’re ready for climate action.
Join our actions over opening weekend (Saturday June 11).
We all know that winter is in trouble. Cold powder and snow pack are in decline. We have a window of opportunity to protect winter. But we need to act now.
The recent federal election brings welcome news for the mountains we love and the winters we adore.
After years of delay, the need to act on global warming is firmly on the mainstream agenda. The ALP have ousted the federal Coalition, and one of the first statements from the new PM Anthony Albanese was that his party would act decisively on climate change.
A wave of community based climate independents have been elected on a strong platform of climate action, gender equality, integrity in government, and tackling corruption.
The Greens had their best ever showing, with new politicians elected and a commitment from leader Adam Bandt to pressure the new government to set a hard deadline for an Australian phase out of coal.
This is a fantastic start. And we have an opportunity to push the government to do more.
The ALP has committed to an emission reduction target of 43% by 2030. Analysis suggests that if enacted globally the current climate commitments of the Australian government would lead to 2oC of warming, which would spell the end of winter as we know it. The climate Council says we need to be aiming for 75% reductions by 2030.
That’s where you come in. The ALP must do more.
Please join together with other winter lovers and show your support for our government taking stronger action on climate.
