Now that we know that ski resorts will be open at least for some of the winter we can really get on with our planning. In NSW an announcement on the ski season is expected this week, and the season will start in VIC from June 22. I hope this helps with your planning for trips and events. Australian Avalanche Awareness Day
There is a training session aims to equip interested backcountry Australians with the skills, knowledge and materials necessary to become Snow Safety ambassadors and spread Australian Avalanche Awareness Day objectives throughout their communities.

Climb8 winter traverse of the Alps
We are excited to announce that Expedition Climb8 with Wilderness Equipment is starting this winter on the 5th July!
This is a 800km alpine traverse of the Australian Alps, starting in Wee Jasper on Sunday the 5th July.
There will be sections that you can join, check the website for details.
The NSW Splitfest DownUnder will be held on weekend of the 21-23rd of August in the NSW Main Range.
Organiser Adam West says ‘We will be holding the Friday night entertainment at the Jindabyne Bowling Club in the downstairs room starting @ 6pm

VIC backcountry festival
Mt Hotham, September 4 – 6
Tours, workshops, speakers program, ski in outdoor bar and heaps more.
Followed by a four day trip for intermediate to advanced skiers and riders to Mt Bogong.
Touring and guiding services
Backcountry Intro Tours – Alpine Access Australia
For those wanting to be guided on their first backcountry ski or snowboard experience, we offer introductory days. We will travel in low angle terrain and not far from the trailhead. Our focus is on providing you with the foundations of backcountry touring. You will learn about touring equipment and technique, route selection, safe travel in the backcountry, and snowcraft skills. We will assist you with organisation of equipment for the tour.
Intermediate level riding skills required.
Cost: 1 Day $150 per person – you will be joining others booking onto the course

K7 Adventures are based in the Snowy Mountains and have a range of organised tours and trainings – eg tour to Kosci summit, introduction to mountaineering, introduction to snow camping, etc.
Snowy Mountains Backcountry offer tours and guiding in the Snowy Mountasins.
Snow Safety, based in NSW, offers avalanche training courses, snow safety, touring, snow camping and ski mountaineering courses, programs focused on women and youth, and more.

Traverse Hotham offers a range of tours (including snow shoeing) and lessons in the Mt Hotham area.
We are stoked to get the go ahead to start taking you guys out again!
The back country is starting to take shape and we are looking forward to the 2020 season – we can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
