For those who are wishing to experience one of the best alpine winter adventures in Australia, Alpine Walking Guides and the Mt Hotham Volunteer Ski Patrol are teaming up to offer small group, three day/two night ski/boarding tours between Falls Creek and Mt Hotham.

You will be carrying only a day pack, so you can get the most out of the skiing/boarding on offer. Alpine Walking Guides staff will be setting up and staffing camp sites and all your gear will be provided for warm and comfortable nights in the Alpine Wilderness. Food and wines from the North East will be prepared by quality chefs and cooks. No one goes hungry on these trips.

Leaving Falls Creek, we skin up and over Mt McKay, searching for perfect lines that rarely see skiers/boarders, heading down to Pretty Valley then up and over to Tawonga Huts camp. Weather gods permitting we will leave perfect tracks through the fresh snow until the dark sends us into camp for our first night out. Tall tales told around the fire while drinking a lovely glass or two of local red to wash down the local lamb shanks and mash will end a memorable day.

The second day starts with a climb to look for fresh tracks off Mt Jaithmathang and surrounds, heading across the edge of the High Plains skiing/boarding down to the very picturesque Weston’s Hut with the most outstanding views of Mt Feathertop’s South Eastern face in all its glory. The day is finished by descending down to where the crew have set up camp on the banks of the Upper West Kiewa River near Blair’s Hut.

Our third day will be a choice between ascending Machinery Spur onto Mt Loch or ascending Swindlers Spur, this will depend on weather and conditions on the day but both open up some of the best skiing/boarding terrain on offer.

These trips are an excellent opportunity for anyone who has wished to venture across the mountains on a guided, supported snow tour. Each trip will have a guide and a member of the Mt Hotham Volunteer Ski Patrol, all the gear that is required for camping in the snow will be provided – tents, sleeping bags and mats, all food and wine for the trip is included, all you have to do is carry your personal gear in a 30 litre day pack and enjoy the experience that this legendary terrain will bring.

Each trip will be limited to six clients, the cost per client will be $2495, of which $500 is a donation to the Mt Hotham Volunteer Ski Patrol.

Trips will be Mondays through to Wednesday, leaving Falls Creek at 8am and getting into Mt Hotham 5pm. Trips are based from Bright with transport to Falls Creek and return from Mt Hotham.

Trip dates are 29-31st July, August 5-7th, August 12-14th and August 19-21st. Other dates are negotiable with groups of 4 -6.

We can also tailor trips for those wishing to use snowshoes.
