The 3rd Victorian backcountry festival is planned for Friday – Sunday September 4, 5 and 6, 2020 in and around Mt Hotham. Sure, with the pandemic, everything is up in the air, and lots of things could happen between now and September. But we are planning in the hope it can go ahead.

We are planning for a COVID-19 safe event.

We now have permission to run the outdoor tours and workshops and hold the outdoor bar up at Village Lookout. We are talking with The General about hosting the speakers program indoors with small groups (20 people) as ticketed events. There will be an outdoors rego tent and a demo village outside The General. And we are looking into making the safety briefings available online so people can meet at an assigned point for their first tour of the day and get the briefing via their phones.

We have a bunch of other ideas, like holding an outdoor film night (mountain folks are tough and know to bring their puffer jackets).

If you would like to offer a tour or workshop – or want to suggest a tour you would like to see happen – please check this page.

At this point, regional Victorians can visit Mt Hotham, but Melbourne/ Mitchell Shire people are locked down. And if NSW people cross the border, they are (at present) required to self-isolate upon return for 14 days.  But if we all play our part, we can flatten the curve, and hopefully Melbourne and interstate people can attend. (Today’s interesting fact: According to last year’s festival survey, almost 40% of people who attended were locals or from regional VIC).

Let’s keep our fingers crossed we can get on top of the virus and enjoy an epic 2020 backcountry festival!

We now have a general facebook group for all things festival.
