Despite some developments in the conflict, the dispute continues between Facebook and the Australian government over the media licensing laws. Like many other community pages, Mountain Journal has been caught up in the cross fire. All the content has been removed from our facebook page.
This is frustrating as there is so much going on at present.
As an interim measure, until we get our page reinstated, I started a daily digest of mountain related news stories. You can find it here.
We are also about to launch the 2021 season of the Backcountry Film Festival.
Because of the difficulty in finding a suitable location to screen it, we have opted for a virtual screening this year. It will launch from Sunday 14 March. Stay tuned for details. And check here for a summary of the films in this year’s festival.

Perfect time for us all to shift to diaspora an open source people owned social media project. diasp.org It works much like twitter using hash keywords #keyword. You use them in your posts and then people subscribe to various topics using the #keywords and everyone sees any posts using the matching ones. Too easy and yep you own your data. Did I mention no overlords deciding over your posts or your account? Time to unfriend the corporate rullers
